WE NEED YOUR HELP!

Do you, or does someone you know, have memories of Dr. Mary Cook, Ada Courtney, or Mary Current?  If so, we would like to talk to you!

These fine ladies were instrumental in starting and growing the library into the institution it is today.  The library will be celebrating its 100th anniversary in 2017, and we would like to create a documentary that highlights the people and events that helped make the library the great place it is today.

We want to include memories of these great women, so we need your help.

Also, if you have pictures of anyone who helped with the library, or pictures of library events through the years, we would love to scan them for possible use in our documentary and to add them to our permanent collection.

Please contact the library if you would be willing to share!

PARDON OUR DUST...

Our Ohioana Room will be undergoing a renovation to facilitate the room's flexibility.

Local artisan Pat McGeehan of The Wayne Township House on Main Street will be updating the room.  Therefore, for a period of time from mid-August through October, the Ohioana Room materials will not be accessible.  However, after construction is completed and materials are reshelved, we invite you to stop by and appreciate his craftmanship.

FREE ICE CREAM SOCIAL

Roll out those last lazy, hazy, crazy days of summer by coming to our FREE ice cream social on Saturday, August 27 from 2 - 4 pm at our gazebo.  This year we have four swings to sit in, so sit back and relax as the Caesar Creek Dulcimer Club serenades us.

WHAT'S BLOOMING?

If you get a chance to take a look at the garden across from the hydrangea shrubs along the back loop of the garden walkway, you might notice some Echinacea purpurea in bloom.  Echinacea, also known by its common name of purple coneflower, is a native to our area and attracts a wide variety of pollinators to the landscape.  It’s an easy-care flowering perennial for a full sun location and, once established, tolerates drought.

Mary L. Cook Library and Warren County Master Gardeners invite you to take frequent walks around these demonstration gardens.  The scenery is always changing, and we’re available to answer any questions you might have.

SUMMER READING PROGRAM

The Mary L. Cook Public Library was a very busy place this summer!  We had record number of juveniles, teens, adults, and families participating in our summer reading programs!   We had over 500 juveniles reading books to try to win a shiny new bicycle (donated by retired realtor Gil Irvin), Kings Island passes as well as 18 other prizes (Frozen slushie machine, cash, Lego sets and more).  Our teens were reading in hopes of winning cash, a Fitbit, and gift certificates. The families in Waynesville are READERS!

Thank you to the Beach Water Park, COSI, and Cincinnati Zoo for providing gift certificates that allowed families that read together to play together!

Thank you, Friends of the Library, for providing the super reader T-shirts for the juvenile readers of 20 books or 12 hours this summer! Thank you, Gil Irvin, for the wonderful bicycle that was an incentive for many of the juveniles to reach their goal of 20 books/10 hours!

Thank you, King’s Island, for the passes that encouraged our readers.

Thank you, John and Becky Barney for donating $100.00 that was a huge incentive for many teens to read, read, read this summer!

Our summer reading programs are so successful because of our very supportive staff and the tremendous generosity of our community.  Miss Kathy and Miss Sheila say, THANK YOU!
