SUMMER READING PROGRAM ISN'T JUST FOR KIDS!

While you're signing up your children and grandchildren for the Summer Reading Program, sign yourself up, too.  For each day that you check out 5 or more reading materials, adults will receive a chance to win one of our terrific gift baskets.  It only takes seconds for an adult to sign up.  The more times you visit to check out, the better your chances to win!

NEW DVD PERMISSIONS FOR AGES 12-17 AVAILABLE

Parents, if you have a child with a Young Adult library card (ages 12-17), you may now come into the library and sign permission for him/her to check out dvds with ratings of either: PG and TV-PG and/or: ratings of PG-13 and TV-14.  These permissions are optional - you as the parent may give these permissions at a later time or not at all, if you so choose.  Dvds that are marked R, TV-Mature, or Not Rated will not be permitted to check out on a Young Adult card.   Those will continue to check out on Adult cards only.  Please ask at the desk if you have any questions about this change in policy which began May 1.

WI-FI T-MOBILE HOTSPOTS

We are pleased to offer T-Mobile Wi-Fi Hotspots for loan. These hotspots are capable of accessing T-Mobile's 4G LTE network so you can watch videos, play games, or connect to the internet virtually anywhere. They offer unlimited data. We have 4 of these hotspots, and they have a 1 week check out period. Our intent is to help connect those in our community who do not have internet coverage available.  In order to borrow a hotspot, you must be a permanent cardholder, at least 18 years old, a resident of our service area, and have a library card in good standing.  You must sign an agreement taking full responsibility for the hotspot upon checkout.  Hotspots check out for one week with a one week renewal available if there are no reserves.

ROOTFINDERS

Rootfinders will take a summer break and return in the fall.  Use this time to dig up long lost relatives and share your findings after the summer.

1,000 BOOKS BEFORE KINDERGARTEN

In August 2014, The Mary L. Cook Public Library launched a new literacy program, 1000 Books Before Kindergarten.  As of today we have 13 children who have completed this program.  Congratulations to these children and their families.

If you read one book a day to your child, she/he will reach 1,000 books in under three years.  Though the goal of this program is to improve literacy skills, but even more, it’s about time spent together reading.

Ask how to sign your child up for this fun program.  For each 100 books read to your child, they will receive a free book from us.

THANK YOU!

The library would like to thank Mr. and Mrs. Fenner for their very generous donation of several Lego sets for use in our monthly Lego Fun programs.  Their donation will be enjoyed by many children.
