PRESCHOOLERS THROUGH 5TH GRADERS...FALL FOR BOOKS

Fall into a book during the month of October.  Check out a book and receive a chance for a prize that you will fall for.

DROP IN STORYTIMES

Aimed at 3 - 6 yrs., but all ages accepted.  Drop in Monday evenings 6:15 - 6:35 pm or Tuesday mornings 10:00 - 10:20 am.  Join us in the children’s room for a few stories, fingerplays, and laughs.

PRESCHOOL STORYTIMES

For 3 - 5 year olds, including kindergartners on Thursdays 10:30 - 11:15 am or Thursdays 6:45 - 7:30 pm.  Registration is requested.  We play games, sing songs, hear stories, and share laughs.  *Please note we will not have storytime the evening of October 31 due to Trick or Treat.

STORYTIME SUPERSTARS

Come to storytime at the Mary L. Cook Public Library and get a stamp.  When you have 10 stamps on your Storytime Superstar card, you will earn a free book! 

BABY BOOKWORMS

Birth - two years & caregiver. Wednesdays 10:30 - 11:00 am beginning Oct. 2.  Enjoy great books for babies, learn fun songs and rhymes, and meet other families in your neighborhood.   Parents/caregivers are expected to stay with children during all sessions. WATER SCIENCE FOR PRESCHOOLERS

3 yrs. - K and a caregiver on Friday, Oct. 4 from 4:00 - 4:30 pm.  We will be exploring water with several hands-on activities. All children should bring an adult with them.  Required registration began Sep. 16.  ?'s - please contact Kathy Daniels  @ 513-897-4826.

HALLOWEEN PAPER CIRCUITS

Grades 3 -5 on Tuesday, Oct. 8 from 6:30 - 7:15 pm.  Come and make your own light-up card.  You will add working lights using copper tape and LEDs.  Registration is required and began Sep. 23. Call 513-897-4826.  

TODDLER TIME

For ages 24 months - 36 months & their caregivers on Tuesdays from 11 - 11:30 am beginning Oct. 15.  Join us for this new program of activities and fun for your little ones.  We will read a story or two and do fun activities each program.  These sessions involve parents as active participants.  This program involves messy fun; dress accordingly.  Required registration began Sep. 16.  Limit - 12 toddlers & 12 caregivers.

CHAPTERS BOOK CLUB

Grades 1 & 2.  This group will read one short chapter book a month, and then meet to discuss the book, the author, and do activities associated with the book.  The Chapters Book Club will meet Tuesday, Oct. 15 from 4:00 - 4:45 pm.  Registration is required and is available now. 

 RAPID READERS & WRITERS BOOK CLUB

Grades 3 – 5.  Join us on Tuesday, Oct. 22 from 4:00 - 5:00 pm as we discuss books, play games, try creative writing, and enjoy a snack. This class is currently full.

 LOOK WHO'S READING BOOK CLUB

Grade K on Tuesday, Oct. 22 from 6:00 - 6:30 pm.  The group will engage in a variety of fun learning activities featuring phonics, the writing of letters and words, and many other skills that promote a strong literacy foundation.  Registration is required and is available now.

GERM SCIENCE FOR PRESCHOOLERS (3 yrs. – K) and a caregiver on Friday, Nov. 8 from 4:00 to 4:30 pm.  We will be learning what germs are and how not to spread them with several hands-on activities.  Required registration will begin Oct. 21.  Please call to register @ 513-897-4826.

POPCORN SCIENCE

Grades 2 - 4 on Monday, Nov. 11 from 6:45 - 7:30 pm.  Pop on in to explore the science behind popcorn.  We’ll conduct some “a-maizing” and tasty science experiments with our favorite snack.  Required registration will begin Oct. 28.  Call to register @ 513-897-4826.

DEAR TWO & THREE YEAR OLDS...

YOU and your caregiver are invited to a Drive-in Movie on Tuesday, Nov. 12 from 6:00 - 6:30 pm.  Toddlers love to play with boxes, and now they can make their own little box car with help from their parents/caregivers. The kids will watch a short children’s book movie in their car before “driving” home.  Ask Mom to register you at the front desk beginning Oct. 28 (513-897-4826). 

DONUTS WITH DAD 

Saturday, Nov. 16 from 10:00 – 11:00 am.  Hey kids, bring Dad or that special person in your life to the library for a morning of fun!  We’ll provide donuts, drinks, and provide activities for all.  This is a come-and-go program; there is no need to be there the full hour.  Stop in for a few minutes for a snack and complete an activity or two. Registration is required and will begin Oct. 28.  You may register by calling 513-897-4826. You donut want to miss it!

1,000 BOOKS BEFORE KINDERGARTEN

Have you signed your child up for this program yet? The 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten program encourages families to read at least 1,000 books to their preschooler, birth to age 5, before they enter school. Families can sign up today at the Mary L. Cook Public Library. Each time a child records 20 books read, he/she will receive a sticker.  For each 100 books recorded, your child will receive a free book. This project's goal is to help kids enter school ready to learn. Reading is integral to ensure your child’s school success, while increasing their exposure to a wide variety of books as well as promoting use of the library - a gold mine of free materials.

 

ADULT PROGRAMS

UKULELE HOLIDAY MUSIC CLASS

Held the 1st and 3rd Wednesdays of the month (Oct. 2  & Oct. 16) at 6:30 pm, these ukulele classes will focus on holiday music.  You don't have to be able to read music to join in. Children 10 & under need to be accompanied by an adult.

ADULT BOOK CLUB

The adult book club will meet the 2nd and 4th Tuesday of each month at 1 pm.  The book for Oct. 8 is Coming Home by R. Pilcher.  The book for Oct. 22 is A Man Called Ove by F. Backman.

MEET SCHOOL BOARD CANDIDATES

Jim Byers and Sue Blair will be here on Monday, Sep. 30 and Oct. 21 at 6:30 pm to speak with local citizens about school board issues.

CARRIAGE HILL RESIDENTS

Join Sheila at Carriage Hill on Friday, Oct. 25 at 2 pm to make a terra cotta candy dish.  No experience necessary.  Call Sheila if you have questions at 897-4826.

ADULT WOODEN SIGN STENCILING

Ages 16 & up may sign up beginning Monday, Oct. 7 for a class held Friday, Oct. 25 at 6:30 pm.  We will be making a stenciled wooden sign with fall themes.  There is no experience necessary and the class is free.  Limit 20 participants.

ROOTFINDERS

Our genealogy group will not meet in October due to the Sauerkraut Festival, but will meet Saturday, Nov. 9 at 10 am. 

KNITTERS

Meet Thursdays at 5 pm.

FRIENDS HOLIDAY AUCTION COMING...

The Friends Annual Holiday Auction is coming. Come in and bid on a variety of wreaths, candles, gift certificates and more, which have been donated by area businesses and community groups. If you have an item you are interested in donating, please contact Kathy Daniels (897-4826). Bidding will begin Friday, Nov. 22.  Bids will be opened Thursday, Dec. 12 at 7:00 pm.  Do your holiday shopping at the library! 

TEEN PROGRAMS

TEEN CAFE IS OPEN

Teens (gr. 6 & up): Each Wednesday after school from 3:00 - 4:00 pm.  We provide snacks, drinks, and something fun to do. Come join the fun and bring a friend! *If we show a movie, the program will run until 4:30 pm.  ?'S - call Sheila @ 513-897-4826.

BOOK WIZARDS MIDDLE SCHOOL BOOK CLUB

Monday, Oct. 21 @ 6:30 - 7:15 pm.  Registration begins Oct 1.  This will be our first meeting. We will meet once a month during the school year.
