Hoopla has a wide variety of audiobooks and ebooks available, as well as movies, tv shows, and music. To create an account, go to hoopladigital.com (or download the app) and sign up using your library card. Each cardholder can check out 15 titles per month. There is no waiting. All material is available 24/7. Audiobooks and music albums check out for 21 days, movies check out for 3 days, and television episodes check out for 2 days.
WHAT'S BLOOMING?
Last summer, we wrote about the oakleaf hydrangeas (Hydrangea quercifolia) on the front face of the library. This time, we’d like to draw your attention to the hydrangeas growing along the north end of the walkway around the gazebo. Each of the three are a Hydrangea paniculata. Each inflorescence is made up of multiple flowers clustered together into a pyramid or cone shaped tower of flowers. Hydrangea paniculata produces blooms on new seasonal growth, so it’s less likely to suffer flower loss from frost damage, unlike the old-fashioned hydrangeas we may be used to seeing. The ones you see in the library’s garden are hydrangeas that bloom in white, lime green, and pink. Each one of them has a change in flower color as summer progresses into fall. Suited for moist, well-drained soil in sun to part shade, this versatile shrub might fit into your garden. The Mary L. Cook Library and Warren County Master Gardeners invite you to take frequent walks around these demonstration gardens. The scenery is always changing, and we’re available to answer any questions you might have.

It’s School Time - It’s Tool Time!
Sign up for your library card today. It’s the most important tool you will ever use for school. Every time you use your card to check out five books at between September 1 & September 30, you’ll receive a chance to win a basket of school tools (appropriate for your age - preschool through 5th grade).

1,000 Books Before Kindergarten
In August 2014, The Mary L. Cook Public Library launched a new literacy program, 1000 Books Before Kindergarten. We have 25 readers who have completed the goal of 1,000 books.
If you read your child one book a day, she/he will reach 1,000 books in under three years. Though the goal of this program is to improve literacy skills, even more, it’s about time spent together reading.

Toddler Laptimes for 2 year olds and their caregivers
Tuesdays 6:45 - 7:10 pm from October 3 - November 7.
Join us for stories, games, and laughs. Required registration in person begins September 18. Limit - 12 toddlers and 12 caregivers.
Preschool Storytimes for 3 - 5 year olds including kindergartners
Thursdays 10:30 - 11:15 am or Thursdays 6:45 - 7:30 pm
beginning September 21. Registration requested.
We play games, sign songs, hear stories, and share laughs.
Storytime Superstars
Come to storytime at the Mary L. Cook Public Library and get a stamp. When you have 10 stamps on your Storytime Superstar card you will earn a free book. We will keep your Storytime Superstar card here at the library.
Baby Bookworms is for infants from birth to two years & a caregiver. Watch for details this fall for when these sessions will resume.
Chapters Book Club is a book club for those in grades 1 and 2. This group will read one short chapter book a month, then meet to discuss the book, the author, and do activities. The Chapters Book Club will hold its first meeting on Tuesday, September 19 from 4:00 – 4:45 pm. (This group is presently full.)
Calling all Book Worms (grades 3 – 5) to join the Rapid Readers & wRiters at The Mary L. Cook Public Library Tuesday, September 26 from 4:00 – 5:00 pm. Please join us as we discuss books, play games, try out creative writing, and enjoy a light snack. Registration is required and will be available the beginning of September.
Look Who’s Reading Book Club (grade K) at The Mary L. Cook Public Library Tuesday, September 26 from 6:00 – 6:30 pm.
The group will engage in a variety of fun learning activities featuring phonics, writing letters and words, and other skills that promote a strong literacy foundation. Stop in today to register and pick up the book for the month. Books will be available to pick up the beginning of September.

We know how special teachers are, so there are several services that are offered to teachers only to help you help your students.

Teachers and their students are welcome to visit our library.
The Youth Services Coordinator and the Teen and Young Adult Coordinator are also available to visit your classroom.

Teachers may request that books pertaining to special assignments be put on temporary reference reserve in the Library.
